DA believes ANC behind Mpophomeni protest
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The DA in Umngeni Municipality's described the protests that rocked Mpophomeni on Monday as acts of pure lawlessness.
Residents barricaded the R617 near Howick, destroyed municipal infrastructure and allegedly tried to prevent officials from inspecting electricity meters.
A transformer blew last week due to overloading as a result of illegal connections.
The municipality said it would repair the transformer and restore the power supply after it conducts a house-to-house audit - at a cost of R150 000 to the council.

Greg Krumbock, who is the DA's Mooi-uMngeni constituency head, believes there are politics at play.
"We do believe that this is politically motivated because there were many people in ANC t-shirts and ANC cars at the protest and I would expect the ANC if they want to be a responsible government to come out and say this kind of behaviour is not acceptable.”
