DA accuses EFF of Dunoon violence
Updated | By Heart FM News
Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille has accused the Economic Freedom Fighters of causing the recent violence in Dunoon.
Dunoon plunged into chaos on Sunday night when protestors looted several shops, and stoned a MyCiti bus station.
Residents are demanding land and proper housing.
More than 200 shops, many of which are foreign-owned, were looted on Sunday night and police arrested at least a dozen people. Mayor Patricia de Lille has condemned the violence openly accusing the EFF.
"It is a minority of the EFF and we condemn what they are doing," she said.
But, the EFF's Tlhabanelo Diholo claims they would never do such a thing.
"That would be very irresponsible of us. We have never done so and would never do such a thing. The mayor and Councillor Makeleni are involved. They are the ones giving money to people to go and loot foreign shops and to burn containers," he said.
But de Lille says the EFF must learn that violence is not the answer.
"I will not talk to the EFF until they stop their violence because I will not talk to anybody with a gun against their heads.
Roads have been reopened in Dunoon while a heavy police presence remains in the township.
