Cyclone Freddy weakening: SAWS
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The South African Weather Service says tropical storm Freddy is weakening, and its impact won’t be as severe as it had previously thought.

The cyclone is moving through the southern parts of Mozambique this weekend.
"It is moving eastwards at the moment and is expected to give rain and showers in the extreme eastern parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga over the weekend. Fortunately it is not expected to affect KZN in any way as it moves," says forecaster Odirile Mudipa.
The cyclone tore through parts of Madagascar on Wednesday, killing seven people while affecting over 78 000 citizens.
The victims were four people who drowned and three killed when a house collapsed.
Mudipa says the affected provinces in SA will still experience heavy rains but not at the level of intensity as they had previously expected.
"What was anticipated was that it will move much closer over the Limpopo province but it seems to be propagating more towards Zimbabwe, so should it have taken the normal route that we were expecting, we were going to see a whole lot more heavy rain, heavier than we were going to get."
