CWU calls for national march
Updated | By Zongile Mthimkhulu
The Communication Workers Union is calling for a national mass march this month to protest against planned job cuts at Telkom, and problems their workers are facing at the SA Post Office.
Earlier this year, Telkom announced its plan to cut 4 400 jobs through voluntary severance packages or early retirement packages.
The CWU has condemned Telkom management's alleged disapproval of worker unions, calling for the CEO to step down.
The union's Clyde Mervin says the CEO's dissaproval of unions is a known fact.
"This was publicly said by the CEO, that he does not want unions - he wants to play by the rules of the law. I think as the Communications Workers Union this is a fight which we cannot leave unattended," he said.
