The minister's been speaking at a discussion forum in Pretoria, where he spoke against ministers and prophets who encourage congregants to engage in controversial and sometimes dangerous practices -- such as eating grass or drinking petrol.

“Our people go to religious institutions, mainly to get spiritual fulfilment and in the process,  they tend to be very vulnerable,” said Mkhize.

“It is important for us to ensure that they are not exploited.”

The minister went on to say that people need to be protected from physical, sexual and psychological abuse or even financial exploitation.

South Africans have been reacting to a video that went viral on Sunday showing a pastor, by the name of Alph Lukau, claiming to raise a man from the dead.
