Critical thinking 'significant in varsity'
Updated | By Zongile Mthimkhulu
Political analyst Aubrey Matshiqi feels there is an urgent need for institutions of higher learning to teach critical thinking to their students.
Matshiqi made the comments at a public forum in Durban yesterday, which discussed the deconstruction of racial identity.
He said a growing number of South Africans are failing to think for themselves and make their own decisions about matters such as race and politics.
''The learning that happens in our universities is thoughtless.
''We uncritically and unconsciously accept things we are told and those we are taught, because a lot of learning that happens in the society is thoughtless,'' he said.
