Covid-19: South Africa enters third wave, says NICD

The
National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says South Africa has
technically entered the third wave of Covid-19 infections.
South Africa recorded 9 149 new cases in the last 24-hour cycle, which represents a 15.7% positivity testing rate.
The majority of fresh cases are from Gauteng, followed by the Western Cape.
With the recent spike in infections, the NICD says cases now exceed the new wave threshold as defined by the Ministerial Advisory Committee.

One hundred more people, who tested positive for coronavirus, have died - taking the pandemic death toll to 57 410.
Also, in the past 24 hours there were more than 800 hospital admissions, with the number of those currently admitted climbing to over seven thousand.
There are more than 71 000 active cases in the country, with the recovery rate dropping to 92.5%.
