COVID-19: SA records over 3 000 new cases

There have been 3 198 new cases of COVID-19 in South Africa, bringing the country's cumulative total to 785 139.

Over 127 000 of those infections stem from KZN with Gauteng still leading with over 200 000 infections. 


There have been 61 new fatalities with 12 deaths coming from KZN.  This brings the total amount of COVID-19 related deaths to 21 439. 


Meanwhile Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says close to 430 healthcare workers have lost their lives to COVID-19 in South Africa. He says 36 000 health workers have tested positive adding that in SA close to 430 have lost their lives. 


Mkhize says healthcare workers are the unsung heroes of the struggle against an unseen enemy.
