The Covid-19 positivity rate has once again climbed to more than 30% across South Africa on Sunday, with holiday provinces accounting for most new cases.
Statistics released by the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported that the national positivity rate stood at 30.7% on Sunday evening after the first traditional week end of the Festive Season.
The majority of the cases come from KwaZulu-Natal (27%), Gauteng (23%) and the Western Cape (18%).
It was the second consecutive day that the popular holiday destination province of KZN showed more daily new infections than Gauteng, which was the epi-centre of the fourth wave since last month.
A further 15 465 new cases were recorded during the latest 24-hour period, bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country since the beginning of the pandemic to 3 308 074.
There were three new Covid-19 related fatalities, bringing the country’s death toll to 90 348.
