Covid-19 positivity rate decreases further in SA

South Africa has recorded 5 372 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, which represents a further decrease in the daily positivity rate to 12.3%.
This brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2 829 435.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), an acceptable positivity rate that shows that the virus is under control is 5%.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says KwaZulu-Natal recorded the highest number of new infections at 1 348, followed by the Eastern Cape province with 1 287 new cases.
“The majority of new cases today are from KwaZulu-Natal (25%), followed by Eastern Cape (24%). Western Cape accounted for 18%; Free State accounted for 11%; Gauteng Province accounted for 9%; Mpumalanga & North West each accounted for 5% respectively; Northern Cape accounted for 3%, and Limpopo Province accounted for 1%,” reads the statement by the NICD.
A further 282 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 83 899.
There has been an increase of 302 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours, with 11 429 people currently receiving treatment in both private and public facilities.
