Providing an update to the media on COVID-19 and related matters yesterday, he outlined the province's rollout plan.

He said they are putting a plan in place that will ensure that vaccines are rolled out faster when they become available.

"The province of KZN was already planning ahead based on the dates for the arrival of the vaccine as announced by the president and Health Minister."

"Our starting point is education and awareness and debunking the needs that unfortunately surrounded the vaccine. For us this will be an important race to save lives," he says.

He says the Provincial Command Council will present the full plan in the coming weeks, "Even as we go through this dark cloud we are confident about the silver lining that is coming up in the form of the vaccine. We are increasing our testing and screening capacity capabilities."

He has also urged the public to act with speed when noticing any symptoms of coronavirus.

Zikalala raised concerns about people responding late to covid-19 symptoms and arriving at health care facilities when it already late to save them.

He held a media briefing yesterday to give an update on the impact and developments related to the  Covid-19 second wave in the province.

He has appealed to the public to get screened and tested so that they can be attended as soon as possible. "We are noting that people over-rely on homemade recommended solutions such as steaming and the use of traditional approaches."

He says while these may be part of our arsenal in this war,  they appeal and encourage that if people test positive they must try and reach healthcare facilities on time.
