One million senior citizens aged 60 years and above have been vaccinated under government’s phase two mass vaccination against Covid-19.

This was confirmed by Health Department Director General Sandile Buthelezi on Tuesday evening.
The government roll-out has been criticised for being too slow, with warnings that it was likely to miss its own targets.
So far, a total of 1 433 730 people have been vaccinated – including the health care workers who received their Johnson and Johnson vaccines during the Sisonke trial.
As for the latest Covid-19 statistics, South Africa has recorded 4 209 new cases over the past 24-hour reporting cycle.
