COVID-19 claims 7 more lives in SA

The Health Department says seven people who have now died from COVID-19 related illnesses - they were aged 50 and over.

The department has released the country's latest coronavirus statistics. 


The death toll now stands at 34. 


KwaZulu-Natal once again bore the brunt of the fatalities. 


Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says of the seven new deaths recorded in the country - six were registered in our province.

The oldest in the group was a 91-year-old KwaZulu Natal man, who had diabetes. 


KZN remains the province with the highest number of overall fatalities at 18. The number of people in the province who have tested positive stands at 519. 


Nationally, that figure has gone up to 2 506.
