Court dismisses Bester's bid to prevent Showmax from airing doccie

Showmax can show its documentary series on events leading to the arrest of Thabo Bester and Nandipha Magadumana.

The Johannesburg High Court has given the streaming platform the greenlight after dismissing Bester and Magudumana's urgent application to interdict the programme from airing on Friday.
Judge Stuart Wilson pointed out that the pair are both inmates - and said they failed to show how they will suffer real prejudice if the four-part documentary airs.
He also highlighted that the events around Bester's escape have been a matter of considerable media coverage.

In their application Bester, a convicted rapist and murderer, and Magudumana, his alleged accomplice in his prison break, said the show threatens their legal rights.
"Showmaz is delighted that the High Court has upheld the public's right to watch the 'Tracking Thabo Bester' documentary," says Group General Counsel at MultiChoice Steven Budlender.
"The first two episodes of the documentary will be available to stream exclusively on Showmax from 4pm this afternoon [Friday] and we think the public needs to have the chance to watch the documentary and make up their minds for themselves."
