Cosatu's national march hits Durban central

eThekwini metro police says officers will be deployed to various intersections in the Durban CBD during the Congress of South African Trade Unions' national protest on Thursday.
The members of the trade union federation are expected to down tools against the state of the country's economy.
In Durban, workers will march to City Hall to hand over a memorandum.
The march will start at 9 o'clock in the morning from the King Dinuzulu park.
Metro police spokesperson Boysie Zungu says officers will be controlling traffic.

"All intersections along Pixley Kaseme Street will be managed by police officers. It will be closed when the march approaches those intersections and open after.
"We are advising all motorists and road users to avoid those intersections to avoid delays."
Cosatu provincial secretary Edwin Mkhize says all workers belonging the trade union federation and affiliated unions will be part of the march in Durban for various issues.
"South Africa continues to be one of the most unequal countries in the world which means as much as the economy is battling, but the economy of the country continues to serve a few individuals at the expense of many people who live in this country, including workers who are the ones on the coalface of building this economy, but who are the ones who are not benefiting."
