Cosatu stands behind retrenched Rainbow Chicken workers
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Cosatu says it wants to see Rainbow Chicken doing well again so that workers who lost their jobs because of restructuring can be rehired again.
Members of the trade union federation marched to the company in Hammarsdale yesterday.
About 2000 workers were recently retrenched there with the company saying it's struggling to keep afloat due to cheap chicken imports.
Cosatu KZN's Edwin Mkhize says they want to ensure that workers on chicken farms don't get a raw deal in this process.
"We started this and as Cosatu, we need to ensure we advance that strike to its logical conclusion. We also said we need to know what's happening to those workers that have been retrenched and if the assistance and commitments offered to them by Rainbow have been met," he says.
