The Labour Court in Johannesburg ruled that the strike was unlawful. The unions are fighting retrenchments in the sector.
Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) had sought an interdict against the strike.
There were concerns it would render banking services inaccessible to thousands of customers.
Cosatu Deputy General Solly Phetoe says the interdict only postpones the strike to a later date.
