General-Secretary of the trade union federation, Bheki Ntshalintshali, has been briefing the media in Johannesburg following Cosatu's Central Executive Committee meeting.

Referring to the latest Cabinet reshuffle, Ntshalintshali says they believe Zuma is no longer fit to lead the movement.

"Combined with the alleged undue influence that is apparently exerted by the Gupta family in the office of President Zuma and a series of controversies surrounding President Zuma such as the Constitutional Court judgement and his apology on Nkandla - Cosatu no longer believes that the president is the right person to unite and lead the movement, the alliance and the country.

"We think that of all his undeniable contributions to both the movement and government, the time has arrived for him to step down and allow the country to be led by a new collective at government level," he said.

This is the second alliance partner to call for Zuma to step down.

At the weekend, the SACP said the president's decision to reshuffle his cabinet last week was reckless, and called for Zuma to quit.
