Cosas ‘shocked’ after court gives green light to publish matric results
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Congress of South African Students (Cosas) says it's disappointing that the publication of matric results will go ahead on media platforms.
Cosas
was reacting to Tuesday's court ruling in favour of an urgent application by
AfriForum and two other applicants for the matric results to be published on
Thursday.
The court order, however, states the publication of results may not reflect the names of pupils.
The Department of Basic Education had last week scrapped the public release of results in order to comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act.

Cosas spokesperson Michael Mayalo says the issue is more about protecting and serving the needs of matric pupils.
"We are shocked and we are appealing and meeting to see moving forward on what action to take. This is not something that has been discussed with the department. We want to know in whose interest is this done for.”
Meanwhile, the results for the 2021 Independent Examinations Board( IEB) for private schools matric results were released at midnight on Tuesday.
