Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Convicted child rapist, Nicholas Ninow will be receiving a visit from correctional services officials, after the North Guateng High Court heard that he had been taking drugs while in prison.

Ninow was sentenced to life imprisonment on Thursday, for raping a seven year-old girl in a Pretoria restaurant last year.

During the trial, the court heard that he had been using drugs since he was a teenager, and had been in and out of rehab.
During his testimony in mitigation of sentence this week, Ninow admitted to having taken drugs a couple of times while awaiting trial.

Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo, says the allegations are serious and a formal investigation has been launched.
"Those who may have been involved will have to be engaged. In this instance, it is Mr Ninow. We therefore hope that he can give us more details, so that we can also understand the extent of which the investigation will go just to lift the curtain on how did this thing happen."
"As a department, it is something that can never be tolerated or even allowed," he said.
