Coronavirus cases in SA breach 650 000 mark
Updated | By Newswatch
Fifty-two more people have died in the country after being diagnosed with COVID-19 - bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths to 15 499.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize on Monday released a full status update on South Africa's fight against the invisible enemy.
Mkhize says the number of new cases countrywide continues to decline.
Since 22 August, the country's reported under 3 000 cases a day.
He says at the height of the crisis - that's during July - we would record anything between 10 000 and 15 000 infections a day.
The Minister says there's been a considerable decline in hospital admissions - both in general wards and ICU.
With 956 infections registered in the last 24 hours, South Africa's overall number of positive cases has past the 650 000 mark.
Over 579 000 people have recovered from the virus.
