Moodley will appear before the centre’s parole board after he was previously denied parole in January 2022.

In 2004, Moodley abducted Leigh Matthews from Bond University in Sandton, and held her captive while demanding ransom money from her family.

After receiving R50 000 from Leigh's father Rob Matthews, Moodley shot her three times instead of letting her go.

In 2005, Moodley pleaded guilty to murder, kidnapping and extortion and was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, 15 years for kidnapping, and 10 years for extortion.

Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says parole hearings are in line with the Correctional Services Act, Criminal Procedure Act and the victims charter.

“Parole hearings are a platform where a victim or victims of crime may make representations either in writing, in person or through audio visual communication the same courtesy has to be afforded to inmates.

“It has to be highlighted that parole hearings are not a platform to either rerun the trail or to seek confessions but this is in line with the correctional services act , criminal procedure act and the victims charter.”

Meanwhile, Women and Men against Child Abuse spokesperson Luke Lamprecht says they do not believe that Moodley has been rehabilitated.

“We still do not believe that we have the full truth. We still don’t believe that he has shown remorse. We still don’t believe that he has been rehabilitated now on what base as a resort are you going to give parole if none of those are in place?

“We have not been given anything that would suggest to us that there has been rehabilitation of Mr Moodley that would allow him to be reintroduced to society.”
