Convicted fraudster J Arthur Brown out on parole
Updated | By Nondumiso Dube
Former Fidentia boss J Arthur Brown has been released from a Western Cape prison on parole.
He's served seven years of his 15-year sentence for fraud after more than a billion rand from a fund for the widows and orphans of mineworkers disappeared.
The funds were being overseen by his company.
He was initially given a suspended sentence and a fine of R150 000, but this was later overturned by the Supreme Court.
Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo has confirmed Brown walked out of the Voorberg Prison in Porterville on Thursday.
"Brown will complete the remainder of the sentence in the system of community corrections, whereby he is expected to comply with specific set of conditions and will be subjected to supervision until his sentence expires on 2 December 2028."
