Consumer inflation for April unchanged

Annual consumer price inflation remained unchanged at 5.9% from March to April.
Stats SA's James Kamyi says this is the third time in five months the annual rate was 5.9%.
He says the main contributors were food and non-alcoholic beverages, housing and utilities, as well as transport, among other services.

"Fuel prices continued to cause pain in April 2022, increasing by 2.2% between March and April to reach new record highs. Fuel is 29.2% more expensive than a year ago.
"Monthly food, non-alcoholic beverages inflation quickened to 0.7% in April from 0.6% in March with notable monthly increases for oils and fat, hot beverages and meat."
