Acting Commissioner Thezi Mabuza says tests confirmed the presence of Cronobacter bacteria - which can cause life-threatening infections - and salmonella, which can lead to diarrhoea and fever.
She says they're very concerned but adds that no cases have been reported in our country yet.
"The product in question was manufactured in March 2021 with the expiry date of the 1st of April and the second batch was manufactured in May 2021 with the expiry date of 1st of June 2023.
"We are urging parents to please check your cupboards and ensure that the product Similac Alimentum is been returned to the supplier where it was bought for a full refund."
