Consignment of ‘date rape’ drug seized at OR Tambo

The Border Management Authority on Monday seized a large consignment of a date rape drug at OR Tambo International Airport.

Environmental health officials discovered the drugs in a consignment of dried fish.
The discovery of 8.1 kilograms of the drug Rohypnol was made in the cargo terminal from a flight that arrived from Nigeria.

BMA spokesperson Mmemme Mogotsi says officials detected the drug.
"A case has been registered with the South African Police Service. In South Africa, Rohypnol is classified as a Schedule 6 drug."
