Confirmed: Santaco KZN to resume taxi operations with immediate effect
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
The South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) has resumed all its taxi operations in KwaZulu-Natal with immediate effect.

Operators hadn’t been on the roads since Monday due to the rioting in the province.
The council said it was to ensure the safety of drivers and commuters.
Santaco KZN spokesperson Sifiso Shangase says they’ve taken it upon themselves as an industry to clean up the trail of destruction left on the roads.

"We have already started in Durban and the process is unfolding.
"We are coordinating Pietermaritzburg and tomorrow, we shall be meeting as Santaco KZN provincial executive council to inculcate this information to our constituents.
"This is a stance that we have taken and we want to say a big no to this because the economy is being affected negatively."
Shangase says they fear what life will be like for many in an already ailing economy.
"The repossession of our vehicles, the loss of income, the reduction of commuters because of the destruction that has been caused but defending, no we do not have any fears because we realised we need to play a proactive role now."
