The Hawks have confirmed that a warrant of arrest has been issued for
ANC Secretary General, Ace Magashule, in connection to the multi-million-rand
asbestos audit contract in the Free State.
“A warrant of arrest has been issued, that it was investigated on the asbestos matter from the Hawks Free State, Corruption Unit,” Hawks Free State Spokesperson, Lynda Steyn said.
Magashule will appear at the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on 13 November.
Magashule is one of several people implicated in the R255 million asbestos audit.
Last month, seven people were arrested in different parts of the country and later appeared in court in Bloemfontein, on charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering.
Among those arrested was Thabani Zulu, the former Msunduzi municipal manager and ex-national director-general for the Human Settlements Department.
They were all granted bail.
The asbestos contract was awarded to businessman, Edwin Sodi's company Blackhead Consulting, and another business, Diamond Hill Trading 74.
It's alleged Sodi paid for the cars and homes of several government officials and politicians.
