38 year-old Pretoria resident Roelof Janse van Rensburg was among 12-people killed in an attack by militants who stormed the hotel on Friday.
The hostage drama came to an end yesterday when government troops entered the building.
Van Rensburg worked for an aviation company hired by the United Nations contingent in Mali.
Two other South African citizens were rescued.
KZN based disaster relief group, Gift of the Givers has confirmed one of its members was at the hotel & is also safe.
The group’s Imtiaz Sooliman said "It was mentioned that one of our team members was in the hotel. He was rescued and he is in a UN compound".
"So we can confirm that a Gift Of The Givers member was in that part of the world but is safe now", he said.
