Concern over rising Easter road death toll in KZN

Preliminary reports indicate at least 49 people have been killed on KZN roads over the Easter long weekend.

In one of the crashes, nine people were killed on the N2 near Umzumbe on the south coast following a multiple-vehicle collision last night.
In another accident in northern KZN, 15 people died after their bus overturned near Ntunjambili on Saturday.

KZN Transport spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane says more needs to be done to change driver behaviour and get the message of road safety across to motorists.
"Before the Ntunjambili accident, we were optimistic that we will make a reduction in terms of fatalities and crashes until the accident happened - which brought us to be among the top provinces that continues to experience major crashes," he said.
