Concern over rise in KZN road deaths
Updated | By Zongile Mthimkhulu
The KwaZulu-Natal Transport Portfolio Committee says the high number of fatalities as a result of road accidents in the province recently is concerning, considering the festive season has not even started.
The committee has been speaking ahead of its Road Safety Awareness Campaign - which starts in Ladysmith today.
Chairperson Mxolisi Kaunda says as a tourist destination, KZN faces a greater risk of road fatalities because of many festivities this holiday season, so road users must exercise greater caution.

''The festive season should not come with excitement where people become negligent on the roads and drink liquor while driving and ignore the road rules.
''We want to encourage all road users; motorists and pedestrians to respect the road rules,'' he said.
Last year, the province recorded the highest number of road deaths in the country during the festive season, owing to car crashes.
