Concern as Msunduzi stormwater drainage plans go missing
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The Msunduzi Association of Residents, Ratepayers and Civics believes the series of floods last year wouldn't have been as devastating had the city's water drainage plans been in place and in use.

Anthony Waldhausen of the Residents and Ratepayers Association says the stormwater drainage plans are missing.
”We understand the actual natural disasters that do happen, but we need to be prepared for them. If you don’t have the plans, and the plans are not available, in general for any sort of disaster, it is going to be really chaotic for us as a city.”
Waldhausen says they inquired with the city about the plans.
“They did mention that the general layout plans were lost. Copies were supposed to be made, and never returned. It must have been lost.
“This is the problem, if we want to become a smart city we should actually have digital copies available, and also have hard copies available as well. The fact of the matter is these plans are actually lost.”
The Cooperative Governance Department has warned the municipality has left itself exposed and risks continuing to fail to act effectively in the event of natural disasters.
