Competition Commission to look into data costs
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Minister of Economic Development, Ebrahim Patel, says the Competition Commission will launch an investigation into the high costs of data.

Patel was speaking on the sidelines of the ANC policy conference.
He says data costs must come down.
"We will have a market inquiry where the competition authorities will lift the lid, find out what's happening to prices, how do we compare with international players, how can we bring data costs down and what are the recommendations we need to look at," says Patel.
The minister says they are also looking at amending the Competition Act in order to break up cartels.
"We will be introducing, through the cabinet process, amendments to the Competition Act that takes this important institution - the competition authorities - and give them a wider remit so that we help to ensure that our economy is inclusive and that all South Africans have opportunities."
