Community Safety MEC evaluates security at Glebelands
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Community Safety MEC, Mxolisi Kaunda says CCTV cameras installed at Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi have helped secure some arrests at the crime-ridden hostel.

Kaunda is meeting with the local community as part of the KZN Cabinet's visit to the township.
"There are still improvements which are being made to some of the cameras in terms of fixing the ones that are not working properly. For now, we can say the feedback we are getting from the police is that the cameras are of much assistance to their work to bring about law and order in the area," he said.

Kaunda says they will accelerate cases, including old ones, related to the Umlazi hostel.
He says older cases are drawn in court due to a lack of collaboration between police and the community. Kaunda says more convictions can come about with better collaboration between the two parties.
The MEC got proceedings underway earlier by conducting a walkabout through the area.
