Community rallies to help injured medical student in China
The Isipingo community has come to the aid of a medical student who was critically injured after falling from the fifth floor of a building in China.
Nineteen-year-old Deepa Sooknandan fractured her ankle and pelvis and left part of her jaw in the fall last month.
A fund, Help Deepa Recover, has been created by close family and friends to help pay for the mounting hospital bills.
The fundraiser's Anastacia Mahabeer says the support from the public has been overwhelming.
"We have updates on her condition, treatment and queries on the Facebook page. The hospital want the family to start paying towards the bill in order for her to undergo an operation to correct broken the broken bones in her pelvic region.
"This is what the fundraiser is for," she said.
