Minister Senzo Mchunu has called for collaborative efforts between parents and
teachers to curb violence in schools.

He was speaking alongside Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube during the launch of a Safe Schools Protocol Program in Cape Town on Tuesday.
SAPS data revealed KZN schools had the highest number of murders in the 2023/2024 financial year.
Nearly half of the 28 murders within schools took place in the province - 46% of which involved learner-on-learner violence.

Gwarube says it's worrying that schools have become unsafe.
"More than eleven thousand burglaries took place during that financial
year.
“Some ranging from the theft of critical teaching material to even things like
basic food items from our school nutrition programme.
“So it just shows you that the range of the kind of crimes we are seeing in our schools from petty theft, but also to far more egregious crimes."
