COGTA: Authorities must do more to prevent councillor killings

Local government MEC - Nomusa Dube-Ncube says provincial authorities need to do more to stop the killing of KwaZulu Natal councillors.

In the latest murder, ward councillor - Kwazi Mkhize was shot dead last night after attending a branch meeting in Inkanyezini - east of Pietermaritzburg.
No arrests have been made.

Dube-Ncube says the 34-year-old Mkhize had only been in the position for a few months adding his death is a great loss.
"We send our deepest condolences to the family and to the municipality of Mkhambathini and we are further calling on the police to really not leave no stone unturned to ensure that these criminals are arrested and put away," she said.
