Gugulethu Ncgobo, who's with centre management, says the rest of mall has been operating as normal but Clicks will remain closed for the rest of the day.

"They were given the instruction from their regional manager not to open because there is a threat that if they open their doors, all the reps from the EFF are going to enter the store and are going to trash the place. So at the moment, the door is closed."

Protesters have been heeding calls by the EFF to shut down the retail giant - in the wake of a controversial digital marketing campaign.

The party's called the ad racist and discriminatory - following a huge public outcry on social media last week.

Ads for hair products used words like, "dry and damaged," to describe black women's hair - while white models were placed next to words like, "normal and fine."

Clicks pulled the campaign and apologised after the public backlash.

Meanwhile, Clicks Group CEO, Vikesh Ramsunder has confirmed that the employees responsible for the advert have been suspended.

He's released a personal apology, acknowledging the images were insensitive and offensive.
