Lectures had to be put on hold when students who are funded by NSFAS complained about not receiving their allowances.

MUT says it did not receive enough money from the funding scheme, causing the delay in allocating funds to students.

Spokesperson Bheki Hlophe says most students have been given their allowances.

"Lectures resumed this morning. 83 percent of students who qualify have been assisted. We have advised students who have not been given their allowances to check with our finance division as to what the problem is," he said.

SRC president, Sandile Dlamini says some students are still boycotting classes.

"Not all students have received their allowances. We have given them a day to correct whatever the error that might have happened, so that at least by Monday they have received their money so we can then start looking at the issue of resuming classes," he said.
