Family members confirmed that the children had been playing with matches.
eThekwini Fire and Rescue District Commander, Alfred Newman says one of the two children survived the tragic incident.
"A report that we received suggests that children were possibly playing with matches. They were left under the supervision of a grandparent and the parent was not at home at that stage. One child managed to escape, the other is deceased," he said.
