Civilians caught using blue lights in vehicles will be prosecuted: eThekwini Metro

A video depicting two Durban private security guards assaulting a motorist this week, has again ignited the debate around the usage of blue lights on vehicles.
Two security guards - allegedly employed by the influential Mpisane family of Durban - can be seen assaulting the man on Monday, along Umhlanga Rocks Drive.

eThekwini Metro spokesperson, Sibonelo Mchunu, says members of the public are prohibited from using blue lights on their vehicles.
Mchunu says that according to the law, only SAPS, Metro, Road Traffic Inspectorate and South African Defence Force officials are allowed to do so.

He warns that anyone caught violating this law, will face prosecution.
"We will prosecute you, and it varies. Either we issue a summons, or we arrest you and get equipment to have your blue lights removed," he said.
