City funds must be allocated to Durban hostels: DA
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The DA in KZN has raised a red flag over the amount of money Durban has set to spend on an Imbizo aimed at addressing issues plaguing the city's hostels.

The DA’s Zwakhele Mncwango says the funds should be re-appropriated.
"It doesn't make any logic to say you are prepared to spend R3-million while the walls of hostels are falling down," he says.
The municipality says the moral regeneration imbizo will address challenges facing residents.
The Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi, south of Durban, came under the spotlight at a recent sitting of the Moerane Commission of Inquiry, probing political violence.

More than 90 people have been killed at Glebelands since 2014. The facility's alleged to house some of the province’s most notorious hitmen.
Mncwango says it's time to address the problem head on.
"We should be making sure that we rectify what's wrong with the hostels. How many times has the mayor gone to the hostels. They've never spent so much money. They campaign to each and every hostel," he says.
