City focus on unlocking more job opportunities at Durban port
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
The eThekwini Municipality says it wants to make sure there are enough job opportunities for the youth at the Durban port.
The City's briefed stakeholders and government officials on the progress it's made since the launch of the District Development Model last year. It's meant to improve service delivery.
Philip Sithole's the Deputy City Manager for Economic Development.
"The port must be able to help us to give opportunities to the locals," he said.
"We understand that some of the skills might be outside of the city. Our intention is to create a partnership with the port and we will identify young people that would be trained and skilled."
Sithole says they're also looking at empowering local businesses interested in the logistics industry.
"There is an outcry for local black-owned businesses who has a port that is not working for them in terms of opportunities. So we need to come up with programmes.
