Childline welcomes sentence handed to KZN man who raped, killed niece
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Childline KZN says the punishment meted out to a south coast man for raping and killing his young niece is a step in the right direction.

The 27-year-old was handed three life sentences by the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Thursday for each of the two counts of rape and murder.
The seven-year-old girl was attacked in Mthwalume last month.
The National Prosecution Authority says the child was strangled to death when she said she would tell her grandmother.

The accused confessed to the crimes.
Childline KZN's acting director Adeshini Naicker has welcomed the hefty sentence.
"It it also indicative of the fact that these heinous crimes are being treated with the level of severity it deserves. This swift and harsh sentencing also serves as a deterrent to perpetrators.
"Whilst there is absolutely no compensation for any family that loses a child, especially under these traumatic circumstances, it is indeed some comfort to know that the perpetrator will spend the rest of his life in prison and will never be able to harm another innocent child."
