Child rapist jailed for 20 years
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
A rapist has been sentenced to 20 years behind bars for raping a 15-year-old girl near the Drakensberg nearly two years ago.
Police say the girl was attacked during a traditional function in the Bergville area in September 2014.
Amos Mahlathi Mazibuko is said to have forced her into nearby bushes where he raped her.
Police say someone at the function heard the teenager's pleas and ran to help her. Her attacker then fled.
The Ladysmith Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit was tasked with investigating the case and tracking down the suspect.
They eventually found the 24-year-old Mazibuko hiding at a hostel in Gauteng where he was arrested.
Police say his name now appears on the National Register for Sexual Offenders.
