Child and grandmother killed in lightning strike

Two family members have been killed and one injured after being struck by lightning in KwaNongoma -north of KZN.

It's believed that the lightning struck the Buthelezi household at eMahhashini on Friday, killing a 65-year-old elderly woman and a 10-year-old boy.
A 14-year-old girl is said to be recovering from injuries in the hospital.
The storms also damaged several houses in both Nongoma and Ulundi. KZN Cogta spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila says disaster management teams have been sent out as more storms are expected.
"COGTA MEC has asked citizens in the province to be vigilant as inclement weather conditions are expected to continue", he said.
"The SA Weather Service has also issued warning of conditions that could be accompanied by hail and strong winds over the next few days", Mzila said.
