Corruption-accused chief magistrate Nair to motivate for case to be dropped
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The corruption case against suspended Pretoria chief magistrate Desmond
Nair has been postponed to November.
Nair is accused of receiving a bribe in 2016 in the form of security upgrades from facilities management company, BOSASA.
The NPA's Investigating Directorate spokesperson, Sindisiwe Seboka says an electric fence, an alarm system, perimeter beams and a CCTV system said to be worth R200 000 were installed at Nair’s Silverton home.
The chief magistrate says the arrangements with the company were made privately.
It's alleged the upgrades were in exchange for Nair’s influence to act in a dishonest, improper, or unlawful manner.
The case was heard in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Friday.
"The suspended Chief Magistrate's matter has been provisionally postponed for the outcome of the defence's representation to the State on why Mr Nair should not be prosecuted," said Seboka.
