eThekwini officials are assessing the damage following severe flooding in parts of Durban at the weekend.
Chatsworth, Umlazi and Isipingo have been identified as three of the worst affected areas.
The municipality says 85 homes have been damaged and 386 people have been displaced as a result of the downpours.
Spokesperson Thulani Mbatha says disaster teams are on the ground assisting affected communities.

Mbatha says the number of incident reports coming through continues to grow.
"The eThekwini Municipality has opened up the community halls in the area such as Isipingo, Umlazi and Chatsworth to accommodate some people temporarily so that they can also receive some help because there are quite a number of people that have been left without any roof," he said.
Mayor James Nxumalo has sent his condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones in the floods.
While urging people, especially motorists to remain alert, Nxumalo says the rain is welcomed in the current drought conditions.
He's urging communities to harvest as much rainfall as possible for later use.
