Chatsworth schools regroup after three-day water shortage
Updated | By Chanelle Lutchman
Schools in Chatsworth say they have already put plans in place to make up for the three days learners missed due to a lack of water in the Durban South area.
Head of Department for Languages at Montarena Secondary School, Shanti Sewjee says about 500 pupils weren't at school in the past three days.
She says the school had planned English, Afrikaans and Isizulu Paper 3 for their matriculants this week; however, the school had to postpone them to next week.
"They are quite concerned because we've lost three days of schooling and it's so close to exams. We are going to intensify this across the school from Grade 8 to Grade 12 not just Grade 12," she said.
Principal of Arena Park Secondary School, Pat Govender says the attendance at their school has also been low but they have been encouraging learners to study from home.
"Unfortunately, the personal hygiene and health of the learners will be compromised. Learners are dismissed a bit early but school remains open. We will definitely have a catch-up programme on Wednesday afternoons and during the vacation," he said.
Crossmoor Secondary School however says they have not had any interruptions to their academic programme as they have had water.
The water interruptions were caused by a pipe burst as a result of the weekend heavy rains. Some areas had their supply restored this morning.
