Charges against Gordhan still in place: NPA
The NPA says the court case against Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan and two co-accused will still be heard in the Pretoria Regional Court on Wednesday.
The City Press newspaper reported that Shaun Abrahams' office drafted a letter communicating the intention to drop the case of fraud against Gordhan had been dropped.
The charges relate to the early retirement of former SARS official Ivan Pillay, which cost the revenue service R1.1-million.
The National Prosecuting Authority's Luvuyo Mfako has denied this, saying the reports are inaccurate.
"Our response is very clear. We dismiss, with absolute contempt, the assertions that were made by the City Press. The National Director of Public Prosecutions is still considering the matter and no decision has been made," he said.

The newspaper reported that Shaun Abrahams's office wrote a draft letter in which he communicated his intention to drop the charges.
The newspaper further stated that sources close to the matter confirmed there were ongoing discussions between the parties involved to withdraw the charges.
Earlier this month, Gordhan responded to the charges saying he intends to continue serving as Finance Minister. "The cause of defending ethical leadership in government and throughout society is too important to allow ourselves to be deterred by this kind of harassment. The fight against corruption, maladministration, and waste of public resources will continue," Gordhan said at the time.
